New Jersey is a complete driving market and it ranks 6th in the nation for vehicle miles traveled per capita.  The state also ranks 2nd in per capita personal income in the U.S., and many New Jersey Transit customers have household incomes above $100,000 annually.

New Jersey also welcomes tourists to its many miles of shorelines, sporting events, retail shopping and Atlantic City, which is home to world class casinos.  In 2005, 72 million tourists visited the state.
